Ivo Andric Primary School is located in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It was founded in 1976 and named after the great novelist Ivo Andrić, the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature. October 9th is the day when Andric was born and it is also celebrated as School Day. It is a big school attended by around 1100 students aged 6 to 15. It has 97 employees – teachers, librarians, psychologist, pedagogist, defectologist, and technical staff.
The school building stays on a hill surrounded by beautiful nature, a forest and parks and it is easily recognizable by its red-bricked walls and blue roof. The playground is always full of children playing even after the classes finish. Inside it is bright, spacious and warm with students’ work displayed everywhere. Classrooms are modern, equipped with smart boards, TV sets and computers, providing a surrounding for modern education.
School’s mission is to be the school for life preparing students for complex life challenges using modern interdisciplinary approach and project work. Students, with the help of their teachers, participate in various local activities, national and international projects. Through these activities children are given the opportunities to expand their interests, express their talents and develop new skills and knowledge. At the same time the school tends to support the atmosphere of tolerance, equality and inclusion.
Teachers constantly develop professionally to meet the challenges of work trying to keep up with the innovations in education. School organizes annual conference which gathers schools from different regions of the country in order that teachers exchange experience and good example of teaching practice. Many of them are authors of coursebooks, teacher trainers, and presenters at conferences.
In 2018 the school did the first KA 1 Erasmus+ project and currently it participates in two KA 2 projects.
